Faubourg: Oui Are Open For Business
Faubourg Weehawken is now able to be booked for dinner on Resy, right here.
C’est super exciting and seriously big merci to Faubourg for inviting us and other local journalists to the opening night par-tay for canapés and wine.
Message privé à Faubourg: Nous vous aimons vraiment bien, et non seulement parce que nous aimons bien la nourriture gratuite.
We haven’t had dinner there yet but the space is beautiful and it’s a total bonus to the area. Yay for more indie restaurants, and places to meet for a drink. Here’s more info on the menu from Matt Cortina on northjersey.com: Faubourg opens Weehawken location with a classic, seasonal French menu.

Smoking Sea Turtles, Batman!
This week in West Orange, NJ an endangered sea turtle named Pickles was fighting a nasty respiratory infection—and the stupid moniker he was saddled with—when BAM! — lightning struck and his zoo enclosure caught fire. Pickles was then in a real pickle. Some of the harrowing tale, as reported by Eric Kiefer at Patch, is a nail biter:
“During his emergency exam, his heart rate dropped dangerously low. Dr. Paluch, STR's Vet, immediately gave medical instruction to our staff. Pickles was then swam in an emergency pool to stimulate deeper breathing.”
If you want to know if Pickles pulled through, read the whole article — it’s a barn burner, and seriously we love it. It deserves all the awards. Lightning Strikes Sea Turtle Rescue At Essex County Zoo, Ignites Fire
September 20th: MidCentury 3-D Event
One night only! Hosted by Emmy-award winning writer Eric Drysdale
Here’s more about the show which is an immersive and experiential presentation:
Hold the viewer to your eyes, press the button to illuminate the vivid, full-color 3-D Kodachrome slide and be transported back in time. Discover the amazing technology enthusiasts call “the virtual reality of the 1950s.”
Introduced in 1947, the Stereo Realist camera and viewer brought full-color 3-D photography with astonishing realism to the masses. The craze peaked in popularity in the mid-1950s — reaching hundreds of thousands of American homes — then slowly disappeared.
Emmy-winning writer Eric Drysdale has been collecting these uncanny, immersive snapshots for nearly 30 years. In this intimate salon you’ll learn about the science and history behind the technology, then see the very best of his collection in high-quality, fully-restored vintage viewers — the way they were meant to be seen.
You’ll feel almost as if you’re there (and then) as you explore every aspect of post-war American life: work and play; home and travel; city, suburb and country. It’s the closest to time travel you’re likely to experience.
Tickets are $50 plus tax. Only 14 tickets will be sold. Why so few tix? Because everyone there not only gets to learn about the 3-D camera, they also get a personal vintage viewer to experience the best of Drysdale's well-loved expertly curated slide collection. You need to see these slides to understand how great the quality is.
Also: a portion of every ticket goes to the Elks, and they do a lot of good in the community. Light refreshments / snacks included. Get tickets now on Eventbrite before they are gone: bit.ly/Weehawken3D
Note: the show is being presented by Big Noyes, and they will be covering the Eventbrite fees. After the 3-D show the Weehawken Elks will hold a no cover “September Social” which will feature a cash bar so you can come out and meet your neighbors.

In Brief
🩸💪 Hoboken has two upcoming blood drives: a community blood drive on September 6 and on September 11 there’s a 9/11 memorial blood drive. Details on the links.
🤖🦿One member of the Weehawken Gazette staff can be seen dancing in the video above. And we share this because the next AI vs. Human roast battle is Sunday night at 8:30P in Manhattan (Chelsea) and you can go here for tix. Note: the Weehawken Gazette dancer will not be there this time, so for sure the quality of dancing will probably be much much higher.
