This Is How Rumors Get Started
Hit the Weehawken Supper Club, get the skinny on the ferry, and much more.
Increased Ferry Service This Summer?
According to this news report the NY Waterway has announced more ferries are being added to the Midtown / Port Imperial evening route. Can’t find the news on the NY Waterway site, but if you use it, and if it’s true, it’s cool. We don’t use the ferry often, but when we do, we like to blast Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue as a soundtrack for approaching the city—goosebumps every time. The tune turned 100 years old this year and if you care, here’s a good article about it penned by Jim Beckerman on north jersey.com: 100 years ago, 'Rhapsody in Blue' changed the classical game. Was it for the better?
Supper Club Reservations Going Fast
Wait, what is The Supper Club? We have the scoop…
Lorraine’s Table is a long-running local business that prepares fresh gourmet meals that can be ordered online and then delivered to your door. They are really delish, the menus go up weekly, and the portions are plentiful. But they also have been holding Supper Club events in Weehawken for more than 8 years. The next one is coming up soon and the details are below.
The dinner is held at The Weehawken Elks Lodge on Blvd. East with a gorgeous skyline view of the New York City.
The dinner includes wine and a specialty cocktail. A full cash bar will be available for other drinks. You will be greeted with passed hors d’oeuvres that will begin to tell the story of the meal to come. Guests are welcome to mingle and enjoy the view. Once everyone has arrived you will be seated and commence your four-course tasting menu.
The next dinner will be on June 8,2024 @ 6:30pm.
To make a reservation email Lorrainestable@optonline.net or call 201-598-8878
The dinner advertises four courses but… that doesn’t even count the hors d’oeuvres. The menu is crazy impressive and you can see it here on their Facebook page. It includes the tip, specialty cocktail and more for $125 per person. According to their site there are only 10 spots left, so go get ‘em.
Local Luau Is A Hit
If you noticed some teens in fancy dress milling around in Hamilton Park this week, it may have been pre-party pics for the 7-9th grade dance that took place at the Weehawken High School. Not gonna share any pics of the kids, but we can report that they looked amazing. Apparently the dancing went from Cha Cha Slide to near mosh pit. Sharing a pic of some of the decor above and want to give props to all the parents who donated their time and/or $ to make it happen. Special shout out to all who showed up as chaperones and thanks for the expert decor goes to Carolina Lirano, Heather Bostwick, Noelia Gondolfo, Marcia Vitolo.
New: Weehawken Business Alliance
Some local business owners are meeting to have coffee and share ideas on how to benefit all businesses in Weehawken. Focus is on support, promotion, and more for businesses with a brick & mortar location in Weehawken. But meetings will be open to all business owners. If you are interested in attending an upcoming meeting, there’s an interest form here.
Cool Historical Thingy Of The Week
This cool thingy is from the Weehawken Time Machine:
This metal tag identifies The Genuine Wiehawken Laundry Tub. The tubs were manufactured of cement and granite from crushed traprock, by the Peerless Granite Co. of Weehawken.

UConn Rolls Up To AHam?
NCAA champions for the past two years, the UConn Huskies men’s basketball team bus rolled up to Blvd East for pics with Alexander Hamilton’s bust. Except the team wasn’t there. When the Gazette went to capture the moment, maybe get a pic with Alex Karaban, it was found to be a tour bus full of “international tourists” — mostly young women — who were there for the views. One of the drivers said they “sometimes drive the cheerleaders.” We aren’t sure why their bus is being used for tour groups. But if you saw it, now you know you didn’t miss the Bball stars — and you finally understand the headline for this week’s Gazette.
Housekeeping
The company that manages the Tower Plaza has not gotten back to us with a followup on the brilliant idea to have a community billboard. We will call them this week.
We promised more on Nancy Giles but we’re holding for more info about her upcoming shows. Go back to last week for links and a video.
